Join the Connected Water Heater Study

Earn up to $75 by participating in a study that reduces strain on the community’s electrical grid and helps with lowering the cost of providing energy.
With your water heater connected, your electric utility can make small adjustments to when and how your water heater uses energy to maintain the temperature of your water heater’s storage tank and help your utility align your energy use to times when energy use on the grid is lower or when renewable energy is more plentiful.
Throughout the study, you can continue to access hot water as usual, and you may end your participation at any point. By participating, you’ll help your utility make small changes that can add up to a big impact on your community and the environment.
Participation is Easy:
-
Download the SkyCentrics FLEX app

The EcoPort module will not connect to your Wi-Fi or anything in your home, and will not record any data outside of hot water use
What does the EcoPort module do?
Water heaters typically store 50 gallons or more of hot water for long periods of time, turning on only when the temperature sensors indicate it is needed. When your water heater is connected through the study, we’ll help it know when to heat and when not to heat. In the future, this can help your utility align your energy use to times when energy use on the grid is lower or when renewable energy is more plentiful.
Do I have to pay for any equipment to participate?
No, all equipment and services are provided at no cost to you. You can earn up to $75 in incentives for enrolling and completing three short surveys.
Does the EcoPort module connect to my Wi-Fi?
No, the EcoPort module communicates with the grid through a cellular connection and does not connect to any other household devices, your electric meter, or your home Wi-Fi.
Will I run out of hot water?
This study should not disrupt your hot water availability. If you do encounter a cold water event, you can call or text the SkyCentrics support line at (800) 940-9774.
